The product & the two probiotics
What is 5 Strain Probiotic+?
It's our hero product — a daily dog probiotic in a sprinkle capsule you twist open and mix into food (not swallowed whole). Each tub is 90 capsules at 5 billion live bacteria (CFU) per capsule, across 5 strains, plus prebiotic inulin and a digestive enzyme complex. It supports gut health and digestion — and through the gut, the everyday things owners notice most: less paw licking and scratching, calmer skin, cleaner ears, firmer stools and less wind. Vet-formulated with Dr Kishan Vara MRCVS, made in the UK to GMP standards.
What's the difference between the capsule (5 Strain Probiotic+) and the original tablet?
Same idea, same 5 strains, same inulin and enzyme complex — but the capsule is the newer, stronger hero. 5 Strain Probiotic+ is 2.5× stronger per dose (5 billion CFU vs 2 billion in the tablet) and comes as a twist-open sprinkle capsule rather than a tablet given as a treat. The original **5 Strain Probiotic Complex** (120 tablets, 2 billion CFU) is still available for owners who prefer a tablet — but if you're unsure, we'd point you to 5 Strain Probiotic+.
What's actually in it?
Per capsule: a live culture blend of 5 billion CFU — *Lactobacillus plantarum, L. acidophilus, L. brevis, Bifidobacterium lactis* and L. rhamnosus — plus prebiotic inulin (chicory root) 250mg and a digestive enzyme complex 150mg. The enzyme complex is the same 6-enzyme blend printed on our tablet: amylase, bromelain, protease, lipase, cellulase and lactase. The prebiotic inulin feeds the good bacteria; the enzymes help your dog absorb more of the goodness in their food rather than passing it through. The only inactive bits are natural flavouring, magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide — nothing hidden, one of the most filler-free dog probiotics you can buy. The capsule shell is vegan (HPMC).
Does it contain chicken? My dog is allergic.
No real chicken — we use a meat-free chicken flavouring, so it's fine for chicken-sensitive dogs. It won our taste tests, so all dogs can enjoy it, allergies and all.

How to give it
How do I give the capsule?
Twist it open and sprinkle the contents over your dog's food — it's not given whole. The powder disappears into a meal, which makes it easy even for fussy dogs. Mixing it through a little wet food or a dab of pâté helps if your dog is a stickler.
My dog is fussy / small — any tips?
The sprinkle format is your friend here. Twist, sprinkle over dinner, stir it through, done — no big tablet to hide. If you're really stuck, email support@goodforpets.co and we can sort a free sample or talk you through it. (Lots of small-dog owners came to the capsule precisely because a tablet was a faff — we listened.)
Can I split or crush it?
There's nothing to crush — it's already a powder inside a twist-open capsule, so you just open it and sprinkle. You don't give the capsule whole.

Results & timeline
How long until I see a difference?
Give it a good 90 days to judge it properly. Many owners notice a change in 2–6 weeks (sometimes up to 8), but skin, ears and coat take time to turn around because you're working on the gut underneath. The honest rule: the longer they stay on it, the better it tends to get.
What should I expect along the way?
A rough guide from what owners tell us:
- Weeks 0–2: softer stools at first can be totally normal — the gut is "waking up" and adjusting.
- Weeks 2–4: firmer stools, less wind — you start to notice.
- Weeks 4–8: less paw licking and scratching, more comfortable in their skin.
- Day 90+: calmer skin, steadier digestion, a happier dog.
The stools went a bit softer at the start — is that normal?
Usually yes, in the first week or two, while the gut adjusts to the new bacteria. Starting on a **half dose for the first 5–7 days** helps ease that. If it's severe, carries on, or you're at all worried, ease off and have a quick word with your vet to be safe.
What if I see nothing?
That's genuinely not the norm, and we'd love to help rather than have you give up. Two things: first, make sure it's had a fair run (a full 90 days) and that the dose matches your dog's weight. Second, there's a 90-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked — so you're never stuck with something that didn't work for your dog. Drop us a line at support@goodforpets.co and we'll take a proper look at what you're using and how.

Dosing
How much do I give?
By your dog's weight, for 5 Strain Probiotic+:
| Dog weight | Capsules per day | |---|---| | Up to 25kg | 1 | | 25–40kg | 2 | | Over 40kg | 3 |
Roughly one capsule per 25kg of bodyweight. For the first 5–7 days, give half the daily amount while the gut adjusts, then move to the full dose.
And the original tablet (5 Strain Probiotic Complex)?
Dosing is by bodyweight and is printed on your pack — follow the directions there. Tablets can be given directly, with food, or crushed and sprinkled over a meal.
*(Resolved 24 Aug 2026: specific weight bands deliberately not quoted here, because the label and the range reference disagreed. Point owners to their own pack.)*
Can I give it to a puppy?
We'd suggest waiting until around 16 weeks — it's not for puppies under 12 weeks — just to give them time to develop their own gut bacteria first.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
It's not recommended for pregnant or lactating dogs. Best to wait, and check with your vet if you're unsure.

Safety
Is it safe? Any cautions?
It's made in the UK to GMP standards, in a human-supplement-grade facility. The standard cautions on every product: not for puppies under 12 weeks, or pregnant/lactating dogs; don't exceed the daily feeding guide; keep fresh water available; store cool and dry, out of reach of children. If your dog is under veterinary or medical supervision, check with your vet first.
Can I give it alongside my dog's medication (e.g. steroids)?
Yes — it's fine to give alongside medication like steroids. As with anything medical, it's worth a quick word with your vet too, but there's no problem combining them. Never stop or change vet-prescribed medication without speaking to your vet.
My dog has allergies / sensitivities — is it suitable?
Very likely, yes. There's no real chicken (meat-free flavouring), the capsule shell is vegan, and it's one of the most filler-free probiotics around — the full ingredients are on the product page, nothing hidden. If your dog has a specific known allergy, check the ingredient list against it, and ask your vet if you're unsure.
How do I store it?
Keep it cool and dry, out of reach of children. Best-before and batch number are on the base of the bottle. (The original tablets can have their shelf life extended by refrigeration; the capsule just needs a cool, dry spot.)

Symptoms — will it help with…?
…paw licking?
It's one of the most common reasons owners come to us. It works on gut health, which is closely tied to skin and paws, so it's well worth a go — give it a good 90 days. One owner: *"no more paw licking or chewing… a much more relaxed and happy dog"* (T08). If the paws are broken or raw, get your vet's eyes on them too.
…itchy skin?
Yes, this is our biggest cluster of happy customers. Calmer, itch-free skin is a gut thing for a lot of dogs. "Within weeks his skin totally cleared… so I'm afraid it ain't no scam" (T11). If it's flaring badly, worth a quick word with your vet alongside.
…gunky or smelly ears?
Loads of our customers come to us for exactly that — ears are so often a gut thing. *"Her ears are completely clean and don't smell at all"* (T07); "no more gunky ears" (T17). If there's an active ear infection, please see your vet as well.
…a sensitive tummy, wind or loose stools?
This is right in the wheelhouse — supporting digestion is what the strains, prebiotic and enzymes are built for. "No more upset tummy or sloppy poos" (T29); *"stools were much better within a couple of weeks"* (T28).
…scooting / anal glands?
It can help when it's digestion-related — firmer, healthier stools often ease the scooting. *"No more scooting, poo natural"* (T32). We can't promise it for every cause, so if it keeps up, get it checked.
…tear staining / weepy eyes?
Several owners report clearer eyes and less staining once the gut settles. *"Her eyes are really clear now, they literally sparkle"* (T13); "way less tear staining" (T34). It varies dog to dog, but many see a real difference.
…a dull coat?
Often, yes — as the gut settles, coat condition tends to follow, and pairing it with our Omega 3-6-9 (the Skin & Gut Duo) is a great combo for skin and coat. One rescue owner saw *"all Bear's fur back and his skin and coat amazing"* (T42).
…grass eating?
Honestly, it depends on the cause. Grass eating can be a stress or habit behaviour as well as a digestive one, so we can't promise anything — but if it's down to an unsettled gut, these really can help, and it's backed by the 90-day money-back guarantee so you can try it risk-free.

Us vs chews & other probiotics
Why a capsule and not a chew?
Because most probiotic chews don't do what they say on the tub. Chews are usually **baked or hot-extruded at high heat, which can kill up to 90% of the live bacteria before the product even reaches the tub**. Chews are also moisture-rich, and that moisture "wakes up" the bacteria while they're still sitting on the shelf, so they burn out and die before your dog eats one. A **dry, sealed capsule keeps the bacteria dormant and alive** right up until they hit the gut. Ours is cold-filled, never baked. As we say around here: chews suck.
Isn't this just the same as every other probiotic, in different packaging?
Not at all. Ours isn't a chew — it's a cold-filled sprinkle capsule with **5 live strains, prebiotic inulin and a 6-enzyme digestive complex working together, at 5 billion CFU**, made in the UK to human-supplement standards. A lot of the market is single-strain, enzyme-free, weaker (some as low as 100–250 million CFU), full of fillers and made abroad.
Why does 5 billion CFU matter?
A probiotic is only as good as the bacteria that actually reach your dog's gut alive. At **5 billion CFU per capsule we're roughly 5× stronger than a typical chew** (~1 billion) and well above the market average — and because our capsule keeps the bacteria alive, that potency isn't dead on arrival like it is in a baked, moist chew.
Price, subscription & guarantee
How much is it?
5 Strain Probiotic+ is £44.99 one-off (RRP). On subscription it's £31.49 for your first order — which for a smaller dog works out as little as 28p a day — then £35.99 on renewals, and subscription always ships free. Buying more than one tub adds a volume discount on top (2 units +10%, 3 units +15%).
That sounds like a lot — is it?
Reframed as a daily cost it's as little as 28p a day on your first subscription order, and because you need far fewer capsules than you would chews, it works out cheaper per day than it looks. One owner put it plainly: the vet was "costing me £140 every two weeks. This is £33 and lasts two months" (T39). And with the 90-day money-back guarantee, if it doesn't help, you don't pay.
How does the subscription work? Can I pause or cancel?
Subscription is 30% off your first order, then 20% off every order after, for life, and it always ships free. You can pause or cancel anytime, no friction — we won't make you jump through hoops.
What's the guarantee?
A 90-day money-back guarantee on everything, no questions asked. Give it a proper run, and if it hasn't helped your dog, we'll refund you.
Do you have bundles?
Yes — all built around the hero probiotic: Skin & Gut Duo (5 Strain Probiotic+ + Omega 3-6-9, for skin and coat), Calm & Happy Duo (+ Advanced Calming, for daily calm) and Active Dog Duo (+ Joint Support, for joints and mobility). Each Duo is £64.99 RRP, £45.49 on the first subscription order.
Do you have a rewards scheme?

Charity
Is it true you give profits to charity?
Yes — we donate 51% of our profits to animal welfare charities (RSPCA, Dogs Trust, Guide Dogs). We're the only pet supplement brand doing this, and we call it the Donation Diaries. So helping your own dog directly helps thousands of others in rescue. For a lot of our customers, that's the bit that seals it.
